Pick n Pay Youth Regatta 2013

Youth Regatta, for the Youth, by the Youth!                  15th, 16th & 17th June


Once again Pick n Pay has come on board to sponsor this great event – supplying the copious amounts of food & drinks needed for energetic youth sailors J so enter as an individual or enter a team but enter –

This is for the young guys and girls whether you are a club member or not, whoever and wherever you are!





This exciting keel boat regatta, organized by Royal Cape Yacht Club is held on the Youth Day weekend & is a must on your calendar, a needed break from studies or exams & offers all sorts of goodies…… so please tell all your young sailors about it!


Who can enter?

The only restrictions is age & this event is Open to all individuals under 28 of age.

Teams can enter, clubs can enter a team, individuals can enter & will be placed onto a boat …….


Boats are provided!


At least three classes will be sailed - Miuras, L26s and L34s. \

Teams will compete on handicap with the boats having PHRF handicap ratings between 0.910 to 1.015. Spinnakers will be flown if conditions allow.

RCYC now has Academy L26s dedicated to youth development sailing that will also be taking part.


Who will sail?

Skippers and crew to be 28 and under, with half of the crew being under 25 years of age.

The yacht owner or his appointed representative can be on board but not as skipper or helm! The yachts are to be sailed by the young crew. The owner/representative only to make sure his boat and crew are safe.

Saturday 15th June

08h30-09h30   Registration

09h30              Skippers briefing & presentation on boat preparation

12h00              Practice race starts

13h00              1-2 races planned subject to timing

16h00             Racing ends

18h00              Evening ‘presentation’ & debrief

19h00              Dinner at the club followed by DJ & party




Sunday 16th June

09h00              Skippers briefing.

10h30              Racing starts 2-3 races planned

16h00              Racing ends

18h00              Evening ‘Presentation’ & debrief

19h00              Dinner served

Monday 17th June

09h00              Skippers briefing

11h00              Racing starts  2 Races

14h30              Racing finishes after the last race

16h00              Prize giving


Breakfast rolls available from 08h00 each day as well as lunch packs and drinks - for all competitors each day. A light dinner will be served after racing each day as well …….at no cost to competitors.


Racing will be finished by 2pm on Monday afternoon, in preparation for a 4pm Prize-giving and wrap-up.
