Happy new year to you all! Welcome to the second half of the sailing season.

Please note that the Port Owen River Race will take place on the Sat. 23rd, not this week-end as it stands in the calender. This Sunday will therefore be the Scratch series 5. The TGIF that was sheduled for Friday the 22 is cancelled.

Anyone that would like an interesting week-end away plus the opportunity to sail on the Berg river in a fun race, the Port Owen River Race is highly recommended! There is a warm-up race on the Saturday morning to familiarise yourselves with the conditions and the main race is in the afternoon.

Last year we all thoughroughly enjoyed our visit there, they welcomed us warmly and the traditional fish-braai on the Saturday evening (eat as much as you like) was superb! The race is open to all classes of boat except Optimists because the current in the river would make going a bit tough for the Oppies. The race is a Portsmouth handicap race so anyone that sails well can win. Last year Kevin Forerman won in fine style.

We will be sending all the details via e-mail, if you are interested and have any questions please ask me, Rob, Alan, Marion etc. or see below.

In the mean time how about a good days racing at IYC this Sunday?. The Scratch series is for trophys at the end of the season for any official classes.

Regards to all.

Lance Dixon
Commodore.
