Port Owen Race

Hi All.

Some feedback on the Port Owen Race this last week-end.

Six boats from IYC took part in the race, as follows, Luke Sher, Kevin, Geremy, Luke Dixon on Dabbies, Dick Crane on a Laser and yours truly and Cole on our Sonnet (at last!).

The race took us on a long course up and down the river which at it's narrowest is as wide as Zandvlei. The conditions were a fresh breeze which made for perfect sailing. The river is a winding estuary so the point of sailing changed as we progressed around the curves in the river. The estuary is tidal and we caught the tide going out during the race which made for rather challenging sailing on the up-wind stretches.

The race was based on the Portsmouth handicap ratings and the results of our sailors were; 1st. Jeremy Foreman and third Kevin Foreman, congratulations and well done to all our sailors!.

The Port Owen Club welcomed us warmly as usual and treated us to a great snoek braai and salads on Saturday evening. Our thanks to Ann and Frankie for thier hospitality and a wonderfull week-end. I strongly recommend that members notch this outing in thier calenders for next year, it really is a great week-end away!.

Thi coming week-end is also an away regatta at Hermanus Yacht Club. They are hosting the next round of the WP points series. This is also a stunning venue with camping under tall trees on the slope above the club-house. There is a good view of the racing from the club-house and the lawns in front. Any members that are interested, please contact a committee member for more information.

Yours in sailing.

Lance Dixon.
Commodore.
